2021 NEW YEAR SPEECH BY PRESIDENT M. BUHARI, THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

My fellow countrymen and women, First, I would like to thank and praise the Almighty who saw us through the year 2020 and has given us the opportunity to witness the start of another new year. We especially thank God because the year 2020 was one of the most trying years since our existence as a Nation. 2. This can also be said about all other nations around the world, due to the challenges posed on our collective humanity by the novel COVID-19 pandemic. 3. While acknowledging that 2020 was a very tough year, we saw this year put to test our national resilience and ability to survive these tough times and also gave renewed hope that we will again brave any storms that lay ahead in 2021 and beyond. 4. As we celebrate the opportunity before us in this New Year 2021, we must also acknowledge the passing away of our brothers and sisters who didn’t make it into this New Year. May their souls rest in perfect peace. 5. We must remember that we also celebrated the historic occasion of our sixt...

Image
Yes, it's New Year's Eve again, time to bust out the champagne and make resolutions you probably won't keep. But this year's different. Cities around the world will host some of the most amazing celebrations ever. Edible confetti raining over London? Check. How about 400,000 pyrotechnics exploding over Dubai? Got that, too. And let's not forget that the new year also means  bizarre new laws . Here's what to look out for in the coming hours: Photos: Bringing in 2014 1. Taste the rainbo w Why have a fireworks show that only  looks  good? Revelers in London can stick out their tongues during tonight's extravaganza and enjoy banana-flavored confetti that's choreographed to the fireworks. They'll also see floating oranges drifting through the night sky -- pop them to enjoy a citrusy scent! Food artists Harry Parr and Sam Bompas have been working on the show for an entire year. They've even made sure their edible treats are kosher, veg...

Gospel Train: The True Meaning Of Christmas As Was Celebrated Yesterday

"The Jesus of the biblical and black tradition is not a theological concept but a liberating presence in the lives of the poor in their fight for dignity and worth. This is the Jesus I wrote about." -James H. Cone- My mom always tried to make sure Christmas was abundant and good for me and my siblings. She would shop early and poignantly. She would buy us beautiful things like clothes and jewelry, and sometimes gave irreplaceable gifts that would pierce our souls like a meaningful book or a piece of art work. One Christmas she gave me an anthology of newspaper writing when I was considering trying to write. I loved it. My mom grew up poor with an alcoholic mother. She lived with her grandmother, who loved her, in Massachusetts. While she was tight-lipped about her youth, I knew her Christmases were probably frugal and full of angst, given the pain she must have felt about her absent mother. Still, her unshakeable spirit allowed her to thrive as an adult. I grew up he...

8 Steps To Play The Keyboard With Ease

Image
STEP 1 1 Get familiar with your instrument.  Whether you want to be a concert pianist or the keyboard whiz in a rock band, the basics are the same. 2 Learn the terminology.  The instrument has many names and variations that all use the same interface. Let’s take a non-comprehensive look at the history of the keyboard. Harpsichord. These were some of the earliest keyboards, and made their sounds by plucking the string like a guitarist would do, only the pick was attached to a key. It didn’t matter if you played hard or soft. The resulting sound had no dynamic range—it was always the same loudness. Piano. This refined the process of making sounds, using a hard-felt hammer rather than a pick. The hammer was activated by the keyboard, and the pianist was given control of full range of dynamics, from very soft to very loud. Electric Piano. While a piano sounds incredibly rich and beautiful, it’s really hard to carry around to a gig. When musicians started pluggi...
