FedEx Warehouse Shooting: 8 Killed, Several Wounded In Indianapolis

In the night of Thursday, a man opened fire at a FedEx warehouse facility in Indianapolis leaving about eight people killed while others sustained injuries of different magnitude. Immediatelyaafter this shooting, the suspect shot himself dead being the ninth dead, according to a report from the local police.

This report was made few hours after the event intothe nnext day, being Friday by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Public Information Officer Genae Cook. 

According to his report, victims in multiples were moved to hospital throughout the area. 

He stated, "multiple victims were transported to hospitals throughout the area and had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds."

At least four additional people were injured and transported to a nearby hospital. One victim was in critical condition, Cook said.

FedEx and The Police Response

The FedEx Ground Plainfield Center warehouse is located at 8951 Mirabel Road which is about 5 miles from Indianapolis International Airport.

In an interview with NPR, FedEx through its official expressed their grief in the deadly moment which resulted to the loss of their team members and they express their heartfelt sympathy with all those affected. 

It reads, "We are deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of our team members following the tragic shooting at our FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis. Our most heartfelt sympathies are with all those affected by this senseless act of violence. The safety of our team members is our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with investigating authorities."

Cook, on the other hand said following reports of gun shots, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers responded to the warehouse shortly after 11 p.m.  

As officers arrived, they came upon an active shooter, she added.

Interstate-70 near the airport was temporarily closed Thursday night in both directions as police responded to the scene of the shooting.

It's unclear how many workers were on duty during the shooting as at the time of filing this report.
